"God Dammit": A Comedy Short Film About Second Chances

Hey there! I’m Chance Saller, writer, director, and mediocre Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt!  It took me 15 years, 2 deformed ears, torn rib cartilage, a broken ankle, and debilitating shoulder mobility loss… and this isn't uncommon for Jiu Jitsu athletes.

Over the years, I’ve made a few movies I’m proud of, but this next one, God Dammit, hits closest to the heart (and the knees). It’s a short film about injury, identity, and the cosmic joke of it all, told through the weird and wonderful lens of a jiu jitsu athlete who accidentally meets God… while She’s eating tater tots and watching The Jets play football.

After a third knee injury, Simone is staring down the end of her competitive prime. With her identity unraveling, a bizarre chain of events lands her in the living room of a disinterested, beer-swilling God who cares more about the Jets’ losing streak than her fate. As Simone grapples with the absurdity of it all, she’s forced to confront a painful truth: it might be time to let go of the dream and figure out who she is without it. God Dammit is a darkly comedic exploration of failure, identity, and the power of starting over.

This film is my love letter (and maybe slightly unhinged roast) to the jiu jitsu community and all the dedicated athletes who put their bodies at risk. Jiu Jitsu is a sport full of passionate, eccentric, dedicated people who willingly let strangers twist their limbs into origami.Your support will help us turn this strange, heartfelt idea into a visually striking, emotionally resonant, and hilariously human film.

If you stopped reading right now and just thought, “Wait, tater tots and God?” then yes, this is your sign to contribute.

God Dammit is a reminder of how absurdly beautiful it is to keep fighting, even when life keeps pulling your limbs in the wrong direction. It’s for every athlete, artist, and dreamer who’s faced burnout or injury and had to rebuild who they are from scratch. It’s a story that says: “Yeah, it hurts… but you’re still here, and that’s kind of amazing.”

Jiu jitsu is often portrayed as hyper-masculine or overly serious, but in reality, it’s full of humor, humility, and humanity. This film captures that feeling: blending cinematic style with a wink and a nod to the sport’s chaos (and honestly just chaos of life itself). Our team has produced multiple award-winning shorts and features. We know how to stretch every dollar and make something unforgettable. We’ve done it before, and we’ll do it again.

When you back this project, you’re not just funding a film, you're helping build a cinematic world that celebrates resilience, identity, and the comedy of existence.

My team and I are looking for $4,000 to supplement the current funds we have for the film, totaling a budget of $9,263. We are grateful for the wonderful folks who’ve volunteered there time and energy to us, but filmmaking just requires money!

Every dollar will go directly into production costs that make this story possible:

  • $6,150: Cast, crew & equipment (the dream team)

  • $650: Locations and production design (aka turning a shady living room into Heaven)

  • $1,650: Post-production and distribution (editing, color, sound)

  • $1,213: Meals, contingency and other “please don’t die on set” essentials

If we don’t hit our full goal, we’ll scale down without losing the soul: prioritizing cast, crew, and location costs to ensure the story still shines.

Filmmaking is always a high pressure experience, so like most full contact sports you need to be able to adjust on the fly and not give up. Sometimes the weather doesn’t cooperate, or a location falls through or an air fryer explodes. Over 20 years of martial arts has really played a huge factor in helping me keep a cool head and not giving in when things get difficult.

We’ve already secured key crew members, mapped out production logistics, and are scheduling with flexibility to dodge real-world obstacles.

The biggest challenge is funding and that’s where you come in! With your support, we’ll not only shoot the film but also ensure post-production gives it the polish it deserves. Please consider backing us on this endeavor.

If you can’t contribute financially, that’s totally okay! Here’s how you can still help:

  • Share the campaign on Instagram, Facebook, Threads, TikTok (or just shout “GOD DAMMIT” from the digital rooftops)!

  • Tag your jiu jitsu friends, film buffs, or anyone who’s ever yelled at a small appliance.

  • Use Indiegogo’s share tools to help this story reach its people.

Every share, comment, and word of mouth makes a huge difference. Let’s make something that hits hard, makes people laugh, and reminds us all that sometimes, pain really is funny.

Thank you for reading and we appreciate any contribution you can make!
